How and Why Food Makes Us Happy

🤔Does food make us happy?Yes—food makes us happy by triggering neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood and pleasure. Nutrient-rich meals support mental health, while comfort foods evoke emotional connection and nostalgia. And at Tastey Threads, we turn that joy into wearable art.

🧬 Serotonin Starts in the Gut
Your brain and gut are in constant conversation - like a teenage girl on the phone with her bff! According to Harvard Health Publishing, about 95% of serotonin—the neurotransmitter responsible for mood regulation—is produced in the gut. That means what you eat directly affects how you feel.  Nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, berries, and whole grains help reduce inflammation and support brain function.  Where's chocolate on this list?! 😆Meanwhile, diets high in refined sugars can contribute to mood swings and even depression. So yes, that smoothie bowl is doing more than looking cute—it’s lifting your spirits from the inside out.

🍔 Comfort Food and Dopamine: Why Mac & Cheese Feels Like a Hug
Comfort foods trigger the brain’s reward system, releasing dopamine, the “feel-good” chemical. That’s why chocolate cake can turn a bad day around, and warm soup feels like emotional therapy--seriously this is 100% on  point!  Our apparel taps into that same emotional connection. Whether it’s a shirt that reminds you of your favorite diner or a design that makes you smile like your go-to snack, Tastey Threads is here to wrap you in comfort—without the calories.

🧡 Food Is Culture, Memory, and Joy
Food is how we celebrate, connect, and remember. It’s the centerpiece of birthdays, holidays, and late-night heart-to-hearts. It’s deeply personal and universally powerful.
Tastey Threads was born from this truth: that food is art, emotion, and identity. Our mission is to turn that joy into wearable moments—so you can carry your favorite flavors with you, wherever life takes you.

🌯 A Burrito Memory I’ll Never Forget
When I was stationed in Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio while I was still in Tech School. One morning I went to Target and noticed they were selling breakfast burritos in their concession stand—wait, whaaat, is this right? Breakfast burritos 🥳 I ordered two, and what the person behind the counter proceeded to do next took me completely by surprise. She actually started making the burritos—from scratch. Cracking the eggs, heating the tortilla, warming up the chorizo, and then assembling them. Am I at grandma's?!?! If I had a tail, it would’ve started to wag!

Holy chorizo burrito, Batman!  They were amazing, and I’ve never forgotten the feeling of sitting in Target with two freshly cooked chorizo burritos, slowly eating and enjoying every single bite.  Do the Targets in Texas still do this? Someone please tell me—I need to know. I may just book a flight to Texas.

I’ve tried making breakfast burritos myself and have had them from other venues, but they’ve never tasted as delicious as those on that morning.  With that being said, I hope each and every one of you has an equally wonderful, delicious memory to share!
