Why Food Creates Nostalgia and Happy Memories
Where do we begin?! Food makes me happy because it creates nostalgia, it provides a warm and comfort feeling, it's what I can resort to celebrate a milestone, an anniversary, a reunion, where do I stop? I don't because there will always be a million reason why food makes me, you happy.
Christmas 2025: How Family Food Traditions Bring Us Together
Let me give you an example, It's Christmas 2025 in NYC, I've been staying with my parents since Oct. 22, 2025. It's the longest I've stayed since I've left when I made the south my home. But what has made my stay more special is my mom spoiling me and making my favorite meals, (yes I have more than one, my scale can confirm it 😆) treats. We've also been visiting our favorite restaurants and discovering new ones with my family. So for me, this time here with my parents, food has created nostalgia, remembering how eating certain foods brought the family together on so many occassions.
The Power of Food Memories: A NYC Pizza Story
For instance, I visited one of my favorite pizza places and as I was entering the whiff quickly took me back to when I discovered it and loved it so much that I purchased an entire pie, because I needed to share it with the fam. But also, I then proceeded to start to take my family there to eat in and we went there so often that after a bit we became regulars. I remember when his son was little, probably about 10 or 11 years old and used to help out separating the paper plates in which they served the slices. Well when I visited there with my mom, that little boy was about 6 feet tall and was now behind the counter continuing his father's legacy in making great pizza, using the same type of paper plates he used back then.
Discovering New Food Experiences: When Disappointment Turns to Joy
Well on another occasion I intended to treat my mom to a certain restaurant that used to be in the area I used to work before I moved to the south. I really was excited because I wanted to treat her, but when we arrived the restaurant had closed and another one was in its place. I was so terribly disappointed because I had built up so much hype, I knew the food was great because I had eaten there before and I was telling my mom that I couldn't wait for her to taste this, to taste that. And here we were standing in front of another completely unchartered front. We had driven for about 45 mins and I told my mom we should give a chance, if it turned out the food wasn't that great then it would be the last time we'd dine there and if it was something to write home about then we would spread the word. Well we went in and it was fantastic, it was a Columbian restaurant, and we were not disappointed at all. We even ordered some extra items to take back home and share with my dad and he genuinely enjoyed it, whew..he's a picky cookie. Then we made plans with my brother and sister in law to drive up and have a family dinner there. I must admit, I was a little scared they wouldn't enjoy it but boy oh boy when the food came around and they took the first bites they gave it a glowing review, that was an awesome feeling! The atmosphere was super family friendly, great music, great customer service, great conversation, wonderful memories being made all around food.
